The MAX6495–MAX6499 feedback path consist of IN, OVSET’s internal comparator, the internal gate charge pump, and the external n-channel MOSFET when working in overvoltage mode, resulting in a switch-on/off function.

The internal fast comparator turns off the external MOSFET, clamping GATE to OUTFB within 0.5us and disconnecting the power source from the load when the programmed overvoltage is tripped (the OVSET voltage set by R1 and R2 crosses the 1.24V internal threshold). The MAX6495–MAX6499 slowly enhance GATE above OUTFB when IN decrease below the adjusted overvoltage threshold, reconnecting the load to the power source. [Source: maxim-ic.com]
